Harmonizing Various Flavors

Yutang Lin

A few years ago I thought of not to be bound by names
It is not necessary to brew tea only one kind at a time
So I started to drink "boundless" tea
Mixing several kinds of good tea leaves into one pot
And thereby became able to taste varying tea flavors from time to time

Through such exploration
Gradually comprehended the "Tao" of mixing varieties
Green tea too sharp        Fermented ones lack freshness
Sweet osmanthus too fragrant
Chrysanthemum maybe inadequate for weak body
Some teas are over-sweet        some are surely bitter
If we mix the opposite kinds to balance each other
Then we may retain their special characteristics without feeling too much
And resulting in a harmonized tea flavor that is tasty and refreshing

Generally speaking
The fine art of preparing foods and drinks
  is also similar to this

Living in the world as a person
If one could refrain from grasping to one-sided prejudices
But instead making use of available conditions to mix and harmonize
Then, I believe, one will be able to transform the given
To yield delicate flavors of life
