      Not Falling to Either Side
      Yutang Lin
In Dharma there is the saying that
One should not fall to either side of duality
In daily life at any instant one must assume a stand
With a stand one must be at one side of a duality
How then could one still abide by the teaching of Dharma
And remain not falling to either side
Does it mean that Dharma teaches us to become
"A traitor to both sides" or "a swinging grass on the wall"
Following the Dharma wouldn't one then become
A useless person or a shameless rascal
Indeed the intention of the saying that
One should not fall to either side of duality
Is to teach people to become
Neither bounded by prejudice nor confined by attachment
Just as the "Heart Sutra" says
                Mind free from attachments
And as one raises intentions and thoughts or behave in daily life
Then one should follow the instruction from the "Diamond Sutra"
One should raise intentions without abiding anywhere
To conduct Bodhi activities that are open-minded and aiming at universal salvation
According to causal conditions of given circumstances
Once the real significance of the saying that
One should not fall to either side of duality
        Is properly and fully comprehended
Based on Bodhicitta one may freely
                Sometimes stand on this side
                Sometimes stand on that side
According to the causal conditions of various circumstances
And yet one remains not falling to either side of duality
This is because one's mind is free from prejudice and attachment
And one takes various stands according to circumstances
Simply to help universally all beings attain enlightenment
