      Not to Assume as "Outsider"
      Yutang Lin
Usually when we say "taking as outsiders"
We mean that actually both sides are very close to each other
If treating each other in formality, then that would seem distant
Since we have a physical body that can move around freely
We are accustomed to holding that there is a "self" outside the surroundings
Disregarding the fact that "self" is indeed a product of our thinking
Dharma reveals the truth that all are originally in oneness
And yet Dharma practitioners could hardly realize that
It is a mistake to regard "self" as outside the surroundings
As a matter of fact, the totality of our experiences has no boundaries in itself
And hence one should not hold that outside this totality
There is anything there by itself
If the view of a "self" can be extinguished
Only then can the oneness-of-all be merged into
And yet holding "self" as an existence outside surroundings
Is a very subtle and difficult-to-become-aware-of grasping on views
Hereby I call attention to it
With the hope that it would help advanced Dharma practitioners
