Establishing Self

Yutang Lin

According to Dharma teachings
To attain enlightenment one need to
First of all
Realize the absence of self

A person on the path to enlightenment
Should have recognized this point well in advance
Lest one loses the direction for Dharma practices

And yet what a pity it is that
Dharma practitioners even though sincere and dedicated
When it comes to responding to matters arising
Often they are just mindful of
Personal views, personal feelings and personal gains and losses
Consequently what they do in response
Are all nourishing and cultivating their self

Self established will definitely yield no enlightenment
This is a simple and plain truth according to the Dharma
Dharma practitioners run in the opposite direction of the path
Mainly because
Grasping to self is the biggest blind spot of ordinary practitioners

May this reminder and awakening call
Help sincere and devoted Dharma practitioners
To take one more step
At the top of a hundred-foot pole
